William Douglas Home, the well-known playwright, lived at Drayton House and was responsible for inviting celebrities to open the annual Church Fete. These included his brother, Sir Alec Douglas Home, recently prime minister, Sir Michael Redgrave and Simon Williams, then best known as a star of Upstairs Downstairs.
