Flood across bridge and beamed cottages, possibly car park at New Inn. Collection of '50s photos at Ye Olde George.
Until the 1950s, flooding was frequent in the High Street and Church Street, caused by a combination of the natural geology of the river and manmade obstacles including narrow arches in the bridge outside the George Inn and the right-angled bend at the southern end of The Cross. Engineering works remedied the worst flooding but there have been occasional incidents since then, including in Frogmore.
