It wasn’t until after World War II that the south side of Workhouse Lane was built over. The north side had a smatttering of cottages and, until 1910, the relics of the old Workhouse. What is now Appleberry Cottage was then Duncombe View, since it presumably had an uncluttered view of Duncombe Wood, Farm or both.
