Two descendants of the Love family of East Meon have been in touch from the Antipodes. One, who wished to remain anonymous and has adopted the name ‘Eastmeondescendant’,  is  an  Australian  descendant  of  a  Mehetabel  Love, baptised  in  East  Meon  in  1772.

The other, Denise Burrow, is descended from Henry Love who emigrated to New Zealand in the 1870s. Denise derived much of her information from a second cousin, Tony Gerard. He has done extensive research on his family the McGregors as well as the Love family. Henry Lewis Love, Denise’s great grandfather,  married Ellen McGregor. Henry and Ellen are the great great grandparents of Tony’s.  Her  mother, Eileen Rice, nee Love, and Tony’s grandmother were first cousins.

Both have done research into their forebears, and have been assisted by EMHG member David Hopkins. Copies of their correspondence are attached  below, as is David’s record of the genealogy, which is attached as ‘Descendants of John Love. Also attached is the will of Joanne Bulbeck. A PDF of Denise Burrow’s records of her side of the family is attached as a PDF entitled ‘Love Family History’.

The names ‘Love’ and Luff’ have been interchangeable. There  is  evidence  of  Luffs  in  East  Meon  from  the  Middle Ages.
