Floods

Until the 1950s, flooding was frequent in the High Street and Church Street, caused by a combination of the natural geology of the river and manmade obstacles including narrow arches in the bridge outside the George Inn and the right-angled bend at the southern end of The Cross. Engineering works remedied the worst flooding but there have been occasional incidents since then, including in Frogmore.
